Mrs. Alberta Rush-Brown, was born March 14th, 1933, in Rockingham,
NC to the late Harriet (Wooten) and James Rush, Sr. From this
marriage, Alberta, was the 10th child out of 12 children. At an early
age she was baptized and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist
Church. After graduating from Rockingham High School, she relocated to
NYC, where she met and married the late Walter F. Brown. From this
union, 2 children were born, the late Christopher Brown and Sharon
Brown-Gross. In 1969, she became a Paraprofessional for NYC Board
of Education, to work with Special Needs Children, which she enjoyed
for over 30 yrs. Alberta attended NYC Community College For
Teachers, where she received her Associates Degree and received her Bachelors Degree from Manhattan
Borough Community College.
Alberta Brown was affectionately known to family members as “Bert”.
She also was known to her work family as “Brown”, others as “Mrs.
Brown”. To her daughter's and grandchildren’s close friends she
was known as “Grandma Brown or Momma Brown”. She was a
devoted wife, mother, sister, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother
and overall friend.
Although she is preceded in death by her husband Walter, son
Christopher, brothers (6) and sisters (5), eldest grandson (Andre J.
Brown) and granddaughters (Shavette Brown-Thompkins and
Christen N. Brown), they all had special memories and welcoming
arms.
To cherish her memories in life is her daughter Sharon, Son-in-Law
James Gross, grandchildren Michael and JC (Erika), Great-
grandchildren Kingston, Zion, Joel, Tanielle, Tristen, Victor, Destiny,
Honor, Aubree, Madison, Christopher, Sister-in-Law Shirley Rush,
Special Friends Paula Butler, Yvette Thompkins and a host of nieces,
nephews and friends.
