Anthony Newell Obituary

Anthony Alexander Newell was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, on August 30, 1964 to parents Cynthia and Lloyd Newell. Anthony was also known as “Tony” to many, and affectionately known as “Steve” to family  Anthony moved to the United States as a child and grew up in Bronx, New York. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, then attended college at SUNY New Paltz to attain his Bachelor’s degree.

Anthony was a grand lover of music. In his younger years, he was a DJ with his best friend since childhood; Frank Perez. Tony’s DJ name was “Mr. Chemist” and Frank’s was “DJ Frank Ski”, and together they formed “Unprecedented Sound” which provided the musical backdrop for local events and parties. Tony was also a lover of sports, nature, and technology. He was especially fond of audio/visual technology which essentially became his career. His first A/V job was at “Charlie Spartos AV Workshop”.

Tony would later work at the World Trade Center, which is where he met another of his dearest friends; Dave Rivera. On September 11, 2001, a day we all will never forget, Tony tragically lost everything; his work equipment, several colleagues and friends, gone in an instant. In the midst of all the madness, he still had the tenacity to soldier on and rebuild. Later in that same year, his hope was restored with the birth of his daughter Ashley which inspired him to continue to relentlessly rebuild.

Over the years, Tony relocated to New Jersey while continuing to flourish in his Audio Visual profession, lending his talents to several notable companies such as Deloitte, Chase, Microsoft, Viacom, and The United Nations, just to name a few. He was a man of very few words, yet he still made such incredible and lasting impacts on so many lives. As he departs to the Heavens to join his mother Cynthia and brother Andrew, he is survived on Earth by his daughter Ashley, sister Camille, brother Mark, and his father Lloyd.

You will be greatly missed by a plethora of dear friends, family and colleagues, and we will always cherish your memory, legacy and impact. You may be physically gone now, but you will never be forgotten.
