David L. Martin (Dave) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024, at
Metropolitan Hospital, in Harlem, New York The same hospital where he was born on
Tuesday, July 12, 1960. He was the fourth of five children born to his parents Carrie B.
and Frank L. Martin. David grew up as part of the close community family of
Millbrook Houses. Even though he lived in Brooklyn, he never forgot where he came
from and could always be found hanging out there. He attended Food and Maritime
High School where he aspired to be a chef. Even though he did not realize his dream of
being a chef, he could cook. At times David could be found in the kitchen cooking
beside his mother or fixing something for family gatherings.
David was thought to be his mother’s favorite by his siblings (he was) and was always
a momma’s boy. As a young man David worked at a law firm as a legal assistant, and
in his later years he was a Mr. fix it. Easygoing, with a quick smile and hearty laugh.
You could call on David to lend a helping hand. To the elderly and infirm, David was
just a phone call away, he ran errands, did minor repairs in their home, or just sat and
talked with them.
Easy to like and love, he was the father of two daughters, Kim, and Joyce. David was
preceded in death by his loving Mother: Carrie, Father: Frank, Sister: Connie,
Grandmother: Jessie Mae, Grandfather: Leroy and Uncles: JB (his road dog) and Ben.
He is survived by his two Sisters: Pat (Paulette) and Roberta, Brother: Thomas, Uncle:
Len, Nieces: Teressa and Shannon, Nephews: Trenel, Thomas, Anthony, Irief, Len, and
Davonte, Cousin: Ronnie (Shirley) who he loved as a brother. Along with a host of
cousins, great nieces, nephews, and friends.
David, you lived your life as you pleased. We will forever love and miss you. Who is
prepared when a loved one is called home as suddenly as you were. We will miss
talking to you, even though at times we did not have a clue about what you were saying,
your weird sense of humor, and infectious laugh.
Matthew 24:36 "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor
the Son, but only the Father";.
