Diane Dixon Obituary

In Loving Memory of Diane “Mamie Lue” Dixon It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Diane Dixon, born Mamie Lue Lumpkin. Known affectionately to all as Diane, she was called home to be with The Lord on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on Monday, July 23, 1934, in Midville, Georgia, Diane was the cherished daughter of the late Willie Nelson Lumpkin and Alice Coleman Lumpkin. Her journey began in the rural South, Later moving to Florida where she attended Dillard High School. In pursuit of new opportunities, she migrated to New York, a place she would call home for the rest of her life. Her New York story began on 126th Street in Harlem, continued on Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn, and finally settled in Queens, where she built a home and a lasting legacy.

A woman of great strength and dedication, Diane embarked on two distinct career paths. She worked for many years at Citibank before retiring and beginning a second, selfless career as a nurse at Queens General Hospital, where she cared for countless patients with compassion and skill.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Diane was a devout and faithful member of the Educational Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Queens. Her wisdom, grace, and nurturing spirit earned her the honored title of “Mother Dixon,” a role she cherished within her church community. Her passions were simple and profound: she loved to cook for her family, diligently read her Bible, and found her greatest joy in attending church and lovingly looking after all of her grandchildren.

A true family matriarch, Diane’s love knew no bounds. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her parents; her beloved husband, Patrick Stephens; her sons, Willie Nelson Lumpkin, Stacey Dixon, and Charles Dixon; her daughter, Patricia Stephens; and her sister, Genola Lumpkin Howard.

Her memory will be forever treasured by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her loving children: David Stephens (Jackie), Carolyn Dixon, and Lisa Dixon. Her legacy continues through her adoring host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She will also be deeply missed by her devoted siblings, brother John Henry Lumpkin (Latasha) and sister Betty Lumpkin, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched.

Mother Diane Dixon’s life was a testament to faith, resilience, and unconditional love. She will be remembered for her warm kitchen, her open Bible, and the boundless love she gave to her family, loved ones, and all those who knew her as “Grandma” in the community.Services
