Doris Palmer Vann was born on August 12th 1930, the second of three children of Nathaniel and Matilda Palmer of Georgetown, South Carolina. She received her early education at Georgetown High School. At the age of nineteen she relocated to New York City where she met and married the late Jesse Vann in 1956. Their union produced two sons and lasted thirty plus years.
Doris worked as a Food Service Manager at Horn & Hardart until she decided to try her hand at Bookbinding for Henry Bookbinding company. She returned to Food Managing for The City of New York until she retired in 1991. Doris loved arts and crafts including knitting and crocheting in her spare time. She created blankets, mats and other decorative items. She also enjoyed cooking. She cooked a Sunday dinner every week.
She was preceded in death by her brother Nathaniel Palmer Jr, sister Hermenia Elliot and her eldest son Cecil Wade Lance.
On October 4th 2025 Miss Doris slipped away peacefully in her home.
She leaves to mourn, her 2 sons Daryl Vann and Kelvin Vann of East Harlem, NY, her Grandchildren : Karen Vann, Nicole Vann, Kelvin Vann Jr, Brion Vann and Bryce Vann of New York City.
She also leaves six Great Grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews to cherish her loving memory.
