George Parker Obituary

George Edward Parker was born on May 6, 1941, in Accomack County, Virginia, to the late Georgia R. Parker and Obediah Parker. He peacefully departed this life on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital after a courageous battle with illness.

George attended Accomack Public Schools and Mary N. Smith School in Virginia. He was also a devoted attendee of Shiloh Baptist Church in Boston, Virginia. Later in life, he moved to New York, where he met and married the love of his life, Maryteen Snead.

George was a humble, compassionate, and hardworking man who never met a stranger. For 24 years, he proudly worked as a New York City yellow taxi driver, a profession he truly enjoyed because it allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life. He deeply loved his family and found great joy in spending time with children. His favorite pastimes included cooking, fishing, shopping, bowling, and watching sports. A loyal New York sports fan, George especially cheered for the Mets, Knicks, and Jets.

Cherishing his loving memory are his devoted wife of 65 years, Maryteen Parker; daughter, Sheila; granddaughter, Sequoia; son-in-law, Wayne; brother, Levon Parker of Maryland; sister, Julia Adams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Suedella Parker of Richmond, Virginia; sister-in-law, Frances Smith of Virginia; brother-in-law, Jackie Parker of Virginia; and a host of loving relatives, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
