Iris Mourino Obituary

Iris Mouriño was born in Ponce Puerto Rico on September 29, 1938 to Consuelo & Luciano Mouriño. They had five sons, and two daughters.
Iris was the youngest daughter of seven children.
Iris herself mothered 3 children with her husband Pursciano Fernández. She rejoins her husband and youngest son Jorge in heaven, along with many others of her family, who have passed on to glory.
She was Grandmother to eight children, and Great-Grandmother to ten. All of whom lovingly knew her as Abuela or Abuelita.
She served as matriarch for many “adopted” daughters, sons, and grandchildren over the years in her church and community.
A woman of faith, she was a proud member of la Iglesia Hispana Pentecostal for several decades. And even when her health did not allow regular attendance she maintained a close relationship with her Pastor Esperanza Irrizary. She spent many hours a day in prayer and reading the Bible. Her favorite Bible passages were, Psalms 71 & 91.

She always maintained her sense of humor, though there was one thing that was never a laughing matter for Iris, her middle name. Everyone was forbidden to use it around her and she was known to pinch someone if the rule was broken! While she was always austere in her musical taste, it may surprise you to hear that she loved “Mama said knock you out!” by LL CoolJ.  And when asked why she liked the song…she said, “I like it because he said ’Mama said’ so it means he listens to his mother.”

While she was small in stature, she more than made up for it in character! She was always on the petite side, and as an infant her parents had to use baby doll’s clothes to dress her. As an adult she wore a size 5 children’s shoe. Many called her Tinkerbell, Barbie and Muñequita.

She loved holidays with her family, with Thanksgiving becoming her favorite in the most recent years. She loved traveling to Maryland to spend Thanksgiving with four generations of her family at one table because she always wanted a big family Thanksgiving. And she loved Christmas so much that she’d watch Christmas movies all year long. Her favorite Christmas song was “Oh Holy Night”. And even though she loved opening presents on Christmas morning, each year she’d say the only gift she wanted was to be with her family. She loved her family more than anything.

Iris is survived by her children José & Rosaura.
Her Grandchildren; Luciano, Joshua, Joel, Giancarlo, Grace, José II, Elijah, and Rachel.
And her great-Grandchildren; Kalea, Keoni, Gabriel II, Leo, Michael, Ayden, Gianna, Lavi, Junio, & Zamir…
