Javier Francisco Matías was born December 10, 1965, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, before coming to the Bronx, New York.
From childhood to an older age, he found most of his treasured memories in church and, in time, with family too. He enjoyed singing, playing the bass, and giving Bible study in his later years. He provided support to church members through conversations that demonstrated a growth in wisdom. He developed a fostering of love that illustrated a growing walk with God. He delighted in the time spent with his grandchildren and, when possible, other family members.
During Fall of November 2023, Javier was diagnosed with lung cancer, which he would battle with immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiation after 12 years of remission from a prior diagnosis. Despite past success battling cancer, on January 12, 2025, God decided it was time for him to leave this earth and enter a heavenly home.
Today, Javier is succeeded by his family members, including his wife, 12 brothers and sisters, 3 children, 2 stepchildren, many grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Thank you to all who joined, were a part of, and supported his life journey. You each were integral to his growth. We will see him again one day. Until then, he will be greatly missed.
Thank you and God bless,
From the Family
