John Lyons Obituary

John Issac Lyons passed away peacefully on June 3 rd. ,2024 at the age 80 years
old.  John was born September 14,1943 in Bristol Tennessee. John was raised by his
grandmother Martha Priscilla Law in Bristol Virginia. It was there he attended
DOUGLASS SCHOOL from Elementary to High School.
John played Basketball and football in High school. He was a Receiver (END) for
the Douglass Demons.
John was very sarcastic, sophisticated, stubborn, witty and Intelligent. He was so smart
that the Douglass School suggested he be skipped two grades in school.
John was very patriotic and wanted to join the Airforce. Although unable to
serve his country due to his eyesight he talked his younger brother Daphony
Pender Lyons into joining the Airforce.
John relocated to New York where he worked at Tiffany’s, and The Community
Service Society. John later worked at United Nations from which he retired.
John loved reading, listening to 1010 WINS, CNN NEWS AND FOX NEWS. John
also loved dancing and music. He was known to hum “I see you in my dreams
Irene” and “Oh my soul my soul”.
John favorite sayings was “Yes indeedy” and “I am waiting patiently”.
John was a proud man who loved his family. He is survived by his brothers,
Daphony Pender Lyons, Larry Williams, Lifelong confidant and mother of his
children Carol Moore, his Daughters Roberta Sumpter and Nicole Millikens, His step sons Robert Triumph and Shaun Moore, His
grandkids Shacques Millikens, Jonathan Millikens , Shatema Millkens, Sherrea
Sumpter, Ciara Sumpter and Juan Quick. Host of great grands, nieces and
nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents Roberta and John Lyons, his son John Lyons jr., Jonathan Millikens and his Grandson Darren Scruggs.

"John was a great example of a devoted son, brother and dad. His style, wit and
unconditional love will be truly missed."
