Joseph L. Pugh, also known as “Joe Cat,” was born on July 14, 1957, in Harlem, New York, to his loving mother, Mary Pugh. He is survived by his two devoted sisters, Janet and Elizabeth Pugh.
Joseph attended P.S. 133 and graduated from Louis D. Brandeis High School, where he received numerous academic achievement awards. He later worked in construction and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
Joseph was the funny uncle everyone loved—full of jokes, laughter, and unforgettable stories. Though he could be a little grumpy at times, to those who knew him best, that was part of his charm. He once joked about visiting Florida to see his grandchildren, saying, “I’m not taking no one’s plane—I’m taking a train!” That was Joseph—stubborn in the funniest ways and always true to himself. He loved watching Law & Order: SVU and never missed a good action movie, especially The Equalizer.
Joseph left us too soon at the age of 67. He is reunited with his beloved mother Mary and his eldest daughter Dawnesha. He leaves behind his children, LaQwana and Joseph Jr.; his grandchildren Jayla, Joseph III, Jacinda, Chaqutia, Carlina, and Tavion; his great-granddaughter Leilani; and his unborn great-grandchild Rylee. He is also remembered with love by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
We will forever cherish the laughter, the love, and the memories.
We love you always.
