It is with deep sorrow and the deepest love that we mourn the sudden passing of Kay’Von Dre’Mont Jones, age 13, on June 18, 2026, born on June 16, 2013, to Kemp Burwell Jr. and Dreamer Jones.
Kay’Von was a vibrant and passionate young man. Kay’Von attended Democracy Prep and later transferred to East Harlem Scholars, where he was known for his exceptional athleticism and flag football. Kay’Von was in the 6th grade and was expected to graduate next year. Kay’Von had a true passion for dancing and playing video games. He also took boxing lessons. Kay’Von approached life with a boundless energy that inspired everyone who knew him.
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and strength. He will be joining his grandmother, April Burwell; his grandfather, Kemp Burwell Sr.; his great-grandmother, Yvonne Heard; and his uncle, Wayne Freeman.
Kay’Von is survived by his 3 sisters: Egypt, Dallas, and Kaydra. His grandmother, Shirley. 8 uncles: Terrale, Anthony, Leon, Tony, Troy, Andre, Nayshawn, and Chino;7 aunts: Kempdaysha, Monia, Lindy, Yvette, Jessica, Damaris, and Caridad. His godmother, Tiffany, and an enormous number of friends who became family. Jojo-Egypt’s dad, Shawn, and Chasity.
Kay’Von may no longer be here with us physically, but in the spirit, his laughter and love he shared will live forever.
