Margarita Carrion Obituary

Margarita Carrion was born on September 8, 1948, at Lincoln Hospital in the heart of the Boogie Down Bronx to her loving parents, Carmen Rodriguez and William Carrion. As an only child, Margarita was deeply cherished—and yes, a little spoiled. There was rarely anything she wanted that she couldn’t have. But as she grew older, her parents instilled in her the value of hard work, responsibility, and integrity. Those lessons shaped the strong, independent, and selfless woman we came to know and love.

Margarita was a bright and dedicated student who never backed down from a challenge. She graduated from Joan of Arc High School around 1965 or 1966, eager to begin building her own path. After high school, she worked at several jobs to help support her household before landing a position in the court system as a courtroom stenographer—an accomplishment she was incredibly proud of.

But Margarita’s creativity and ambition soon led her to follow her true passion: beauty. She enrolled in the prestigious Wilfred Beauty Academy, where she trained to become a licensed beautician. Many of us still remember those mannequin heads she would bring home to practice her hairstyles—terrifying to see in the middle of the night, but a symbol of her determination to perfect her craft. Though she eventually moved on from Wilfred, her drive and curiosity never faded. Whatever she set her mind to, she pursued with heart and hustle.

It was around the late 1960s that Margarita’s life took a beautiful turn. She reconnected with her childhood sweetheart, Hector Figueroa, who lived on 144th Street between Amsterdam and Broadway. Margarita went to high school with one of Hector’s sisters, Aunt Yolanda, who introduced the two, and the rest was history. What began as a sweet courtship blossomed into a deep and lasting love. Together, they built a home and a family, welcoming two beautiful children: a son, Christian Figueroa, and a daughter, Maria Del Carmen Figueroa. Their children became the heart and soul of Margarita’s life, her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.

As a mother, Margarita’s love knew no bounds. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her children. Sacrifice wasn’t a choice—it was simply who she was. Whether it was a birthday, Christmas, or any special moment, Mom made miracles happen. Even in tough times, when life wasn’t always easy or kind, she found a way to bring joy and laughter into her home.

Margarita was more than a mother—she was a teacher, a provider, and a friend. She was thoughtful, caring, and deeply considerate of others' feelings. Her warmth filled every room, her laughter brightened every day, and her strength anchored her family through every storm.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Maria Del Carmen Figueroa, who passed away in 2020. Margarita is survived by her devoted son, Christian Figueroa, and her cousins, Alma Sanchez and Marlina Miha, who will continue to carry her memory and love forward. Along with a host of family members, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory and mourn her passing.

Margarita was the best—her kindness, humor, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will live on forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to call her family and friend. Margarita will be dearly, deeply missed.
